Often fails to handle encrypted archives #40

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. expanding password-encrypted archives
2. I can't tell what else is common with these archives
3.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Having provided the correct password at the prompt, expect to see a standard
un-archiving.
What results is either NOTHING (no event - Unarchiver just exits) or an
unhelpful error message
along the lines "de-compressing archive failed".

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Version 1.1 on MacOSX 10.4.8

Please provide any additional information below.

Sorry para ... they tend to hit the garbage as soon as they're
decoded/expanded. I'll make sure I keep copies
when the the problem next emerges.

OK - I just made some test files, which are in the ZIP attached. They are all
encrypted with the password "test".

"test1.zip" was made with "BetterZip" using AES-256 encryption. Unarchiver
creates the parent level folder
then quits without even asking for a password.

"test2a.sit" was made with StuffitDeluxe version 10.0.2. Unarchiver runs
momentarily then quits without doing
anything. Unarchiver has no probelm with .sit files that aren't encrypted.

"test2b.zip" was also made with StuffitDeluxe version 10.0.2, using their
"normal" encryption method. This
works fine on Unarchiver.

MacIntel, OSX 10.4.8.

Cheers!

I'm pretty sure libxad doesn't support AES256 at all, so that explains the
first one.
At some point I hope to add AES256 support, as it's needed for several formats
(like
Rar), but I don't really have the time right now so that's for the future.

Did you test the second file with 1.2? 1.2 has lots of StuffIt bugfixes.

All testing was done with Unarchiver 1.2a. I've just checked again with version
1.2b - same result for ZIP and SIT
encrypted archives.

http://shortbus.org/x/HauntMe.rar

This particular .rar file fails to decompress as well.. The error is as follows.

i do not have information on what software the file was created with, however.

P.S. look on iusethis.com and you'll see a bunch of people commenting on the
clearly worse app UnRarX that
they keep it around simply to supplement Unarchiver's inability to handle this
particular issue.

Added WinZip AES support for Zip, which makes test1.zip work.

There is another issue for RAR encryption. This one has nothing to do with that.
