We need updates to the website as there is very little information about different working groups and the projects they're working on. It would be great if the public could see the work we do and possibly even generate interest among local residents to either participate in those projects or become members.
The terms I'm using have specific distinctions. A "Working Group" is similar to what Forte (2022) calls an "Area" which is a well-defined field of interest with no particular goals or deadlines. "Working Groups" will have large-scale missions and visions, but it is distinct from a "Project." A "Project" is the same as Forte's use of the term, which is to say it has specific goals and deadlines.
I plan to approach each working group once I get some kind of affirmative response from the Steering Committee, and had this "Call for Updates" drafted:
Call for Updates:
Hi folks,
We’re working on the new website for the Iowa City DSA and we need your help. We have some content from the old website, but a lot of it was outdated. We need updates about current working groups and their projects, including pictures if you have them. Here’s a list of what we’re looking for from each working group:
- one or two paragraphs describing the overall goals/mission/values/vision of the working group
- a suggestion for an icon for the working group to identify it on the website
- for each project your group is working on or has completed in the past:
- one or two paragraphs describing the goals of the project
- additional paragraphs describing when it started and specific milestones that have been met, partnerships established, challenges that have or have yet to be overcome.
- photos that you’d like to share on the website; good photos would help people get a sense of what you’re working on.
- a suggestion for an icon for the project to identity it on the website
Any text or images you have can be DM’d to me directly, and I’ll put it together as a web page on the IC DSA website.
To assist this, @mike-the-automator or @rs0501, you can try to remind and encourage any groups you're involved in to respond and supply the needed info/images. I've identified these current working groups and their (current or recent) projects:
Transportation Working Group
Bench Building Project
Iowa City City Council Transit Committee, partnering with Community Transit Committee
Socialist-Feminist Working Group
Peoples' Pride 2024
Tabling at Trans Day of Visibility
Green bandanas (not sure if this is a project itself or part of something else)?
It won't close the issue, so I can't link it directly through GitHub (maybe this issue is too big?), but the meshnet branch is a start on updating information on the mesh net project.
