Password recovery

Is there anyway to recover a lost password? I can't remember setting one and 
everytime I log into the WinAuth on my laptop, it requires a password.

No there is no password recovery, as your password is what is used to encrypt 
and protect your authenticator. When you run WinAuth and add your first 
authenticator it prompts for a password. It would then ask for it each time you 
open.

Did you have WinAuth already installed on your laptop and it's just asking for 
the a password from that version?

I have disabled the Authenticator for RuneScape which is what I use it for and 
tried re-downloading the WinAuth Programme; it still asks me for a password.

This means you probably already had winauth installed before. Did you, or 
anyone who uses the laptop, use it for anything else that you had setup with a 
password?

The reason it's asking is that there is already a configuration file. If you 
open Explorer and go to c:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\WinAuth, there is a 
file called winauth.xml. You should take a copy or rename it as it contains the 
other authenticator you used. If you then run WinAuth it'll create a new file 
in that folder and you can add your Runescape key.

Yeah, I had it installed for the RuneScape Authenticator. The first time I 
downloaded the programme was last week and it's the only thing I use it for. I 
am also the only one who uses this laptop.

I found the .xml file and renamed it, but I haven't used it for anything else 
other than RuneScape. I ran the renamed file but nothing else was created in 
the folder. IE opened up though and gave me:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="true"?>

-<WinAuth version="3.0">

<config encrypted="y">[Load of numbers & letters here]</config>

</WinAuth>

Aha! I got it, I ran the .xml file instead of the WinAuth app. I can now add 
devices.

Thanks a lot. This time, I will write down the password and security key.
