Ocean Wave Table 4.2 additions #32

Summary and purpose

This document proposes new GRIB2 Code Table 4.2 parameters.

Action proposed

The Team is requested to review the proposed ocean wave model peak period/direction parameters and approve them for implementation within the May 2019 fast-track (FT2019-2) update to the WMO Manual on Codes.

Discussions

The tables below are proposed additions for peak wind wave direction, peak swell period and peak swell direction fields.

Primary, secondary and now third swells parameters are commonly produced by ocean wave models and made available for use by public and private marine interests. Wave period and direction can be described by a mean value (using different methods) or the value at the peak. Peak period of swell partitions is provided by the Canadian wave models.
