This document propose to add a new entries in Code table 4.2 discipline 10 to support the dissemination of Ocean modelling in GRIB.
Action proposed
The team is requested to approve the content of this proposal for inclusion with the next update of the WMO Manual on Codes.
Discussions
ECMWF would like to request new parameters in Code table 4.2 discipline 10 to support the next version of its ocean model to be released in the coming years.
Detailed proposal
ADD in Code table 4.2 Discipline 10, category 3
Octet Parameter Units
4 Downward heat flux W m-2
5 Eastward surface stress N m-2
6 Northward surface stress N m-2
7 x-component surface stress (see Note) N m-2
8 y-component surface stress (see Note) N m**-2
9 Thermosteric change in sea surface height m
10 Halosteric change in sea surface height m
11 Steric change in sea surface height m
Note: The x- and y-components of surface stress are not necessarily equivalent to the u- and v- components (Eastward/Northward). The x- and y-components strictly follow the defined coordinates system which may or may not follow the eastward and northward directions.
ADD in Code table 4.2 Discipline 10, category 4
Octet Parameter Units
22 Water column-integrated heat content J m-2
23 Eastward component water velocity m s-1
24 Northward component water velocity m s-1
25 x-component water velocity (see Note 2) m s-1
26 y-component water velocity (see Note 2) m s-1
27 Upward water velocity m s-1
Notes:
(rename the existing Note to "1")
2: The x- and y-components of water velocity are not necessarily equivalent to the u- and v- components (Eastward/Northward). The x- and y-components strictly follow the defined coordinates system which may or may not follow the eastward and northward directions.
ADD in Code table 4.2 Discipline 10, category 191
Octet Parameter Units
4 Barotropic stream function m3 s-1
