Hi Wenqian,

Thanks for applying and submitting your pre-work. Based on your LinkedIn it is unclear if you meet the selection criteria for participating in the course. In particular:

Can you review that and let me know if you can confirm that you meet the requirements? If not, I can add you as a "remote self-paced observer" so you can still have access to the curriculum and learn at your pace. In the meantime, you should also check out the resources we provide here.

Hi Nathan, I began my career as a Software Engineer at SolarCity summer of 2015. I was given a solo project that involved developing a web application in JavaScript. This involved downloading images through an API, then sort the images by their tags, and some image manipulations such as rotation and zooming in and out. I was able to complete this project within a few weeks and moved on to more challenging work. My current project involves collaborating on a team in developing an internal Android application.I began learning Android on my own prior to the project and demonstrated to my superiors that I’m a quick learner by creating a QR reader Android app during our team's hackathon. I’ve also developed APIs for the project in C# using MVC ASP.NET. This involved learning C# and Microsoft SQL Server in a few days. We don't have other experienced Android devs on our team,so I'm building the app through knowledge I've learned on my own.I'm really looking forward to bring more professional Android development skills to Solarcity. I also want an opportunity to connect with other like minded people, and create an awesome application. I know the CodePath bootcamp requires serious time commitments and I'm prepared for that. I'm not foreign to intensive learning environments. Prior to SolarCity, I completed an immersive software engineer training program. I came out of it as a full stack developer in JavaScript. I have learned, and developed more in the last year than what might take some in 2 or more years. My drive and passion for learning web and mobile development enabled me to do so. And yes.We ship production code at the company, usually once a week. Best Regards, Wenqian Guo

Hi Wenqian,

Thanks for the comprehensive summary of your background and thanks for submitting the Todo app. Can you please review the section in the prework about the readme for your project? In particular, check out this README template and be sure to include a GIF recorded with LiceCap. Please ping me back here once that's complete.

Few other notes:

1) We receive hundreds of applications nowadays and many pre-works and can only support 30 in each class. Therefore we are always put in a difficult position in terms of who to have participate since we necessarily have to accept a tiny fraction of those that apply. One of the best ways to demonstrate your interest in the class is to complete multiple extensions on your pre-work focused on UI and UX improvements as well as enabling SQL persistence, etc. If you can begin work on a number of extensions and ping us when ready, we'd love to take a look.

2) In each class, we have up to 10 reserved seats that can be claimed by companies to guarantee a spot for an engineer that works for them. Each reserved seat is 5k. If you think SolarCity might be interested in reserving a seat for you in the program, let us know.

3) No matter what, we are happy to provide you observer self-paced access to the program. This would give you access to the portal, put you in an observer remote program with access to a forum to chat with other observers and access to the projects.

Hi Nathan, Thanks for the quick reply. Yes, I will review the readme and add some extensions for the app and then let you know. Thank you so much again! :)

nesquena commented 8 years ago

Great, we'll keep an eye out for your updated submission.

wnqnguo commented 8 years ago

Hey Nathan, I added some extensions to do app. Please review it and let me know if you have any questions. Thank you very much

nesquena commented 8 years ago

Great! Thanks for the update and glad to see you got a number of optionals implemented now including improving the UI and adding a lot of additional attributes to the todo. We will be determining final admittance into the program very soon and will definitely take your updated submission into consideration. For those not admitted as participants, we will offer access to applicants as a remote observer cohort that has access to the materials and is able to work on the projects at their own pace. You will hear from us again soon.

wnqnguo commented 8 years ago

Awesome. Thank you. looking forward to hear back from you.

wnqnguo commented 8 years ago

Hi Nathan, unfortunately I didn't get accepted into the program. How can I be added to the remote observer?

nesquena commented 8 years ago

I've added you into the observer program. More details soon!
