Auto-shot generation from Fountain #1287

After creating a fountain script, there's still a lot of manual overhead to make new shots and assign Dialogue/actions.

Can you add a markup feature that we can use to automatically make new shots from a fountain file in Storyboarder. For instance, everywhere I add an * it makes a new shot? On import, it automatically adds dialogue, action and potential scene description to that shot.

If you don't use a * the program acts as before?

Also, separate but closely related issue - There's unnecessary work involved in assigning metadata particularly because if I assign an action, then add a dialogue line, I have to confirm that I want to overwrite the metadata even though I'm actually not overwriting anything but adding dialogue.

I feel very uneasy about adding extra semantics. for example the asterisk means "bold face" in fountain.

instead may I suggest to simply use the panning / "transition" instructions in fountain?

those that end with a colon or start with a ">" sign?

I would love the same thing. I tried the > sign and the shot generator didn't pick it up or messes up the formatting. We need something that will let me tell storyboarder what to do, but leaves my file intact for my fountain aware editor.

Why not use what Fountain already offers?

Use a note with something like [[SHOT: Close Up of Someone eating]]. Then process whatever notes that start with [[SHOT: for that purpose.

Here is a link of something that has done this way, including a perl script that illustrates it https://slugline.co/blog/shotlists
