  1. Acoustic Monitoring of Frog Populations I am double majoring in computer science and microbiology, and I want to go into conservation. A bioinformatics project would provide me with valuable experience. I have studied frogs briefly in a course at James Cook University in Australia, and I worked on a research project that involved machine learning at a cancer lab at Pitt, so I have some experience in bioinformatics and machine learning that would be relevant to this project, as well as a biology background that would also be useful. I have also taken CS 1555 Database Management Systems at Pitt which may be useful and am currently enrolled in CS 1656 Introduction to Data Science which may also be useful given that the data set is large. I think identifying frogs remotely from sounds is very interesting and has applications for many other groups of animals too. I would love to work on this project.

  2. Pitt Green Suite I would be interested in helping to create a way to both monitor and encourage sustainable living at Pitt. I do not have much experience in web design or mobile application development, but I am willing to learn. I have taken the database class at Pitt, so I have some background there. Sustainability is an interesting topic, and I think it would be fun to design incentives for people to do it.

  3. Automated data extraction from mammalian cells Image analysis and machine learning are both interesting to me. I have a background in biology because I am double majoring in microbiology and computer science, so I can understand the biological aspect of this project as well. Furthermore, I have worked in a cancer lab at Pitt using machine learning for bioinformatics, so I have some background there as well. I have not worked on image processing but the concept is interesting and I would like to learn.
