csl26 project preferences #41

Hello! My name is Carter Levinson and I am a senior Computer Science student. Listed below are my three preferences for the capstone assignment.

1.) NetApp - Kernel Extension. This project would be the most desirable for me because systems level programming is a special area of interest for me. I enjoy programming at a lower level and have completed personal and school project using ASM, C and C++. It would be a great opportunity for me to take my experience to the next level by working on an actual kernel module instead of staying in mostly userspace as I have done in the past. Furthermore I would like to work on a larger embedded project than the Arduino ones I have worked on in the past.

2.) CGI - Ticketing Support This project is both desirable and a good fit for me. The last two summers during my internship I have done work on data analysis and learning algorithms w.r.t. the stock market and trading. One summer I programmed in python and the other summer I programmed in R. This means I have a good grasp of the basics and am not limited to one language. This project appeals to me because over the summer I was not able to completely automate the pipelines (I was working alone and had much pressure to produce deliverables). I would like to work with a team and increase my knowledge of the whole process and build on my experience over the last two summers.

3.) GUI for AppArmor This one is somewhat of a wash for me because I am usually averse to GUIs. However, I have made extensive use of AppArmor, SELinux and firejail on my own personal arch box so I deeply understand the importance of security and making security more accesible. I also have some experience programming in C++ and would like to see if i can apply this to GUI programming.
