Hey @slash1andy - I'm not sure I'm following these repro steps:
In step 3 - what do you do when you cause an error on checkout? Do you fill out all the fields except one required field, fill in a real credit card, and then press the "Place order" button?
Could you share a screenshot of what you see in steps 3 and 4 please?

Describe the bug
When Stripe is in live mode, only a blank error message banner is displayed for any and all checkout errors. This includes general errors such as required fields, or more specific gateway ones. This only happens with the first example of the error, so if for instance you don't have a billing postal code, and get the error, and then you miss the postal code again, it will show the correct error message text the second time.
