WooCommerce orders are not fully synced with Stripe #2526

Prerequisites

Describe the bug

when a user's purchase fails due to an unsuccessful 3D verification or any other reason, their order gets registered in WooCommerce as Failed and their Membership is Paused, which is normal.

However, if that user attempts to make a purchase again and their order is successful or when the 3D verification is successfully with a slight delay, their membership remains on "Paused" status, it doesn't update automatically. It looks like the WooCommerce orders don't get fully synced with Stipe sometimes or that WooCommerce Memberships don't get automatically updated with the order's status.

Expected behavior

If the 3D verification in Stripe is successful with the 2nd or the 3rd attempt, the WooCommerce order status should get updated automatically and so does WooCommerce membership status.

Actual behavior

If a 3D verification is successfully with a slight delay, WooCommerce order remains on "Failed" status and the membership remains on "Paused" status, they don't get updated automatically.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Initiate a purchase on our checkout page: https://learn.thehappypear.ie/checkout/?add-to-cart=60772
  2. Don't approve the 3D verification straight away. Wait for approximately 10 seconds to approve it. OR Decline the 1st transaction and attempt to make the purchase again and let the 2nd purchase be successful.
  3. Check the transaction in Stripe to make sure it was successful.
  4. Check the Order of your purchase in WooCommerce. (It's status is Failed even though the transaction was successful eventually).
  5. Check the Membership status associated with the order. (Its status is Paused even though the transaction was successful eventually).

hey @Hp-TZ - since there are a few aspects here,

their membership remains on "Paused" status, it doesn't update automatically. It looks like the WooCommerce orders don't get fully synced with Stipe sometimes or that WooCommerce Memberships don't get automatically updated with the order's status.

Can I ask you to reach out to the team at SkyVerge via the WooCommerce.com support portal for support with this, please?

I recommend this as the core problems seems to be related to the Membership status not updating from "Paused", this is specific to Memberships but could possibly be Subscriptions. The team at SkyVerge can help with that.

I'll close this Issue for now, please do reach out here if it's confirmed the problem lies with the Stripe plugin.
