No postcode validation for Australia or New Zealand on the checkout page #46516

Prerequisites

Describe the bug

On the checkout page, if the billing (or shipping) country is set to Australia or New Zealand, there is no postcode validation, and the customer can enter anything - not just numbers. Postcodes in Australia and New Zealand are four digits long.

Expected behavior

When Australia or New Zealand is selected, if the postcode is not four digits long, an error message should be shown (e.g. Billing Postcode is not a valid postcode / ZIP. or Billing ZIP Code is not a valid postcode / ZIP.). If anything other than numbers are entered, the error message should be thrown too. In either case, the checkout process should fail.

Actual behavior

Anything can be entered in the postcode box, and the order will go through without any error.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Add a product to the cart and proceed to the checkout page.
  2. Select Australia or New Zealand.
  3. Enter anything in the Postcode box.
  4. The order will go through.

@Prin-S WooCommerce does not validate post codes for any country. I'll leave this open as an enhancement request.

Hey @rrennick! I tested with the US, UK, and Canada. I entered a postcode that doesn't conform to the format of each country and the checkout did not succeed. For example, for the US, I entered test or 123456 and the checkout did not go through. This is not the case with Australia and New Zealand. Perhaps I used the wrong word. It's not validation, but it's checking the length and whether text is entered when only digits are expected. What do you think? Thank you.

Hey @Prin-S just to be clear, you're talking about the shortcode experience, rather than the Checkout block, right? We do have something in place for handling this on the Checkout block.
