Wonderful, thanks for getting it started @minkere!
@minkere FYI, I implemented a command line feature to automatically translate locales with Google Translate. The translations aren't going to be great, but they may be helpful as a starting point for German. It currently requires access to the Google Cloud account for the project, so let me know if you'd like me run it on your fork, to seed your locale with draft translations.
@amyjko Hi Amy! It'd be great if you could run it on my fork; they'd be a great deal of help as I work on the localization!
Okay, done! I rebased your branch on main
as well, to catch you up.
In the revised strings file, you'll see a lot of $~
in front of everything now. That means it was machine translated. You can review those, see if they make sense for 6th graders, edit them if they don't.
Also remember to run npm run locales
so you can see other problems, including problems created by the automatic translation. (It breaks a lot of the templates and code that get translated, because Google Translate doesn't have a way to say "don't translate this part of this text").
Got it. Thank you very much!
What's the problem?
What's the design idea?
The idea is to start a new localization for de-DE (German as it is spoken in Germany).
One Further Addition
Anyone is free to contribute to the localization!
