There have been two very valid suggestions we should try to reconcile. The first is that the default behavior for scrolling down the webpage is also the input function that activates the zoom. Thus, if you're scrolling down the webpage but you mouse is over the graph area then instead of moving down the webpage you zoom in on the graph and it gets very disorienting. However, the datapoint themselves lend themselves to be 'zoom-able' -- that is, it would be nice to be able to zoom in if we wanted to.
Right now, the "zoom-by-scroll" function is disabled and I think this is the right call and one can zoom in by pressing the appropriate button in the mode bar and clicking and dragging in the graph area. The question is, should we try to implement a limited zoom-by-scroll feature or instead highlight/explain the ability to use the mode-bar to zoom in? (And this latter solution would probably require text explanation since it's not intuitive).
