I realized that the original formatting is compatible with the jupyter book rendered documentation, but it really doesn't work for the README. The edits work in both the jupyter note and the GitHub README page, although they are less colorful as some of the "important" and "see also" boxes had to be swapped for more plain markdown blocks.
