taking #34 a bit further, maybe it would make sense to allow some parameters to be set through the same program that lists them, again like sysctl(8):
Perhaps rename sbig info to sbig control and then allow things like cfw positions, cooler setpoint, etc to be set using an interface like sbig control name[=value], e.g.
sbig control ccd.imaging.cooling.setpoint = -20
sbig control ccd.imaging.cooling.enable = 1
