NB VID changes don't work (please don't create new issues related to this - star this issue for status) #5

On my Asus E35M1-I changing the VID for the northbridge has no effect. I can
even lower it to 0,0125 and it still doesn't lock up. Of course, power
consumption does not change either.

CPU VID changes work fine, though.

I have been trying to get that working, but unfortunately motherboard vendors
seem to have done different implementations throughout the Brazos platform. It
is working on a few netbooks (IdeaPad S205, Asus 1015B, Acer W500), but I still
haven't found the "killer" setting to make it work for all. :(

Just wanted to add that I'm having the same problem with the NB VID change not
working at all.
The reason I found it strange is because I read NB VID change is working with
Acer W500 on couple of forums?
I am willing to test experimental versions and contribute to the development in
any way I can, I understand the risks.

Acer Iconia Tab W500 (C-50), BIOS F14
BrazosTweaker v1.0.7 x86 (same problem with 1.0.4/5/6)
Windows Developer Preview 32bit

Hello everyone,
I have found a way to apply the changed NB VID on my Acer W500, please test it
out.

From my testing it seems the changed NB VID is applied AFTER next GPU clock/P
state change!

For example, apply NB VID of 0,125V on NB P1, no lockup, right?
Then provoke the GPU part to change P-state to NB P0 and then back to NB P1.
And there you go: it artifacts, locks up and restarts, yay :-)

What I found to be a sure way of forcing the new NB VID to be applied is to
start Internet Explorer, go to YouTube, start any vid in 720p or 1080p quality,
fullscreen, as this is guaranteed to force GPU to P0 from P1. Exit Internet
Explorer. And new NB voltages are applied.

Could others test to try and replicate:
1. Alter NB P0 and/or NB P1 voltages
2. Launch Internet Explorer, go and start viewing a 720p or 1080p video on
YouTube in fullscreen (GPU goes from P1 to P0)
3. Exit Internet Explorer (GPU goes back to P1, new voltages applied)
4. If using low VID check for desktop artifacts, or if too low machine will
lock up or restart

VERY IMPORTANT!: AMD External Events services was needed to be enabled and
running on my machine to make NB VID change work! With it disabled it seems the
GPU doesn't do a P-state change which applies the voltage. Hope this works for
others as well! :-)
