@wosdetc Why there's only drone and no bird? Isn't the dataset's name 'Drone VS Bird'?

Dear @onetwothr1, creating an annotation of birds is not feasible especially for ones that are far from the camera as we cannot be sure if it is complete. On the other hand, videos contain birds that have to be ignored by the algorithms tested. This is the intuition behind the naming.

Dear @dimouan, thank you for your response. However, I'm having trouble understanding the meaning behind the phrase "intuition behind the name" that you mentioned. Isn't the purpose of your dataset to differentiate between birds and drones? Yes, it is challenging to distinguish between birds and drones, especially in bad weather conditions or when they are at a distance. I assumed that solving this problem was the purpose of creating your dataset. So, I'm curious why your dataset intentionally ignores birds.

Dear @onetwothr1, the focus of the dataset is the detection of drones. Through our work on the domain, we have identified birds as one of the main sources of false positives. Therefore, we have created a dataset that includes drones but also birds that can act as a decoy to help advance research on. Birds are just false positives for our case, and thus are not annotated. We hope that the dataset is useful to the community.
