Merge 8.0 updates into master #12

This is all the changes that I believe are needed for 8.0 support. I'd like the state of the branch, as a whole, given a look over by both of you to make sure there's no incompatibilities with your addons or any other issues, prior to merging into master and tagging the v10 release.

I'd like to get this done and the v10 release tagged by early Sunday at the latest, if possible.

I added one extra commit that makes the msp:Update() handling of version information more consistent with the behaviour during a real receive event.
