After upgrading to WordPress 4.9, attempts to edit php files in the Theme Editor caused the following error (after attempting to save for about 1 minute).
“Unable to communicate back with site to check for fatal errors, so the PHP change was reverted. You will need to upload your PHP file change by some other means, such as by using SFTP.”
After disabling all plugins and enabling each individually, problem appears to be caused by WP eCommerce.
