Documentation update #301

Updated the documentation for the latest API changes. Feel free to add details and suggest changes.

Great job, thanks. I'm looking into using something like mkdocs for our docs going forward, so we can version them properly and keep the current docs for 1.x.

I was also trying to update the wiki for the project but unfortunately I found out that it’s not possible to issue PRs for the wiki repo.

I accidentally made a commit to the wiki as well but then reverted because it might reflect future documentation when the 2.0 will be released. So, I reverted the commit there. Pity that github doesn’t support contributions to wiki.
