I can't duplicate this on Ubuntu 20.04. Can you post the full exception? What Linux distribution are you using?

I'm on Arch as well. I get a segfault. It seems to be unrelated to the previous crash (so I can't reproduce their issue either). I'm running a Wayland session, but the presence of libX11.so implies the JDK is running stuff using Xwayland (the X11 compat layer). Other GTK3 apps like GIMP do run on my machine.

[tav@myriad tools]$ ../jdk/bin/java -jar PathWeaver.jar

UPDATE: Turns out GTK 2 is required to run PathWeaver because GTK 3 is using Wayland on my machine, and Java FX only works on X11. Installing that let the welcome screen come up at least. When I try to make a project, it fails in the FXML loader doing a game resource load because libjpeg7 is missing. I've gotten things working in the past by installing it, but I typically don't bother because libjpeg7 is ancient. For context, libjpeg9c is the latest version, and libjpeg8 came out 10 years ago.

Here's the relevant issue if it's libjpeg-related: https://github.com/wpilibsuite/PathWeaver/issues/246

Yep, it turned out to be the same libjpeg issue as #246 , installing that and preloading it worked fine. I haven't run into any segfaults so far but I'm on X11.
