3 Video projects #104

(a) There are two video competitions with a scientific focus running at http://www.fastforwardscience.de/ whose scope would include submissions on reference management around Wikimedia projects.

The first one is a 48h competition - a topic will be posted on August 4 at 11 am UTC, along with three "filmic elements" that will have to be in the submission in order to make it eligible. Anyone then has time until August 6 at 11 am UTC to submit their video.

The second one has a deadline of August 31 and can be on any topic related to the "digital society".

(b) There is also a contest for videos around Wikimedia, with a Nov 15 deadline: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiTV/VWA/Ideenwettbewerb .

I think participating in such competitions is a good way to reach out about WikiProject Open Access, OA signalling and related issues, and I would like to spend some time with experienced video makers to discuss suitable techniques, scripts and settings.

That could be something for the Wikimania Hackathon - adding it in via #101.

I talked to Noemie who will also be in London. She is interested in working on some video and we will talk about it more in the next few days. She will need to get a bit more up to speed on our project, but if we can get a camera it should be possible for her to put something clever together with us.

@Daniel-Mietchen is it possible to obtain a digital-format video camera? Higher quality goes a long way for this, so let's see what's possible. Some photography-oriented DSLRs like some Nikon cameras have a video recording mode; these may be easier to find with still-photo people and folks generally than a video camera of similar quality. Stress is on the digital format (capturing tape format to digital would kill the time).

Would love to participate! Ideally, a DSLR (Canon 5D?) and a microphone that fits into the DSLR would be perfect. But let's see what we find! I will ask around.

I have a very poor external mic we can use in a desperate situation (closed room for voice-over perhaps).

we could also use only (cc-licensed) music and voice-over for simplicity.
