Extension Request Required information #11

After a discussion today with Clarissa, we decided that it would be good to formal what is required of students when they request an extension.

What I mean by this is more about what should be be communicated to the students, what they are required to communicate to us. This is primary to distinguish between things like:

I think its important that students know what they are not required to share with us. It's important to us that students do not feel the need to share details they are not required to. We would never want a students to feel obligated to share personal details for an extension. But it also important that we have some amount of documentation as to "why" they wanted an extension. Something like "I would like an extension because I had issues with childcare" is preferred to "I would like an extension due to [detailed medical record]".

It is also important that students know that they are able to contact the professor if they do not feel comfortable sharing something with a TA.

Some documentation on this would be nice to point to, and we should do a better job communicating this to students.

It should also be included that TA's are able to pass any request to the professor, if they believe the specific incident is out of their wheelhouse
