Zutilo 1.1.17 not compatible with Zotero Standalone 4.0.6 #10

Zotero Standalone updated yesterday to 4.0.5, and then again today to 4.0.6, and Zutilo 1.1.17 is not compatible with either one. Will a new version of Zutilo that is compatible become available soon? image

JohnAnderson: Zutilo is hopefully compatible, but the version checking pretends that versions are not matching. The necessary changes are already in the code (working for me!). I got a mail from WillsAlsmannJ how to get a grip at the current unreleased build that fixes that. see closed issue #9: https://github.com/willsALMANJ/Zutilo/issues/9

This problem is discussed in issue #8 but the latest version numbers for Zotero Standalone and Zutilo have both changed since that discussion. As suggested in issue #9 that Armin mentions, the latest version of Zutilo available at https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/zutilo-utility-for-zotero/versions/ should work with the latest version of Zotero Standalone (and regular Zotero).

Version 1.2.3 has been in the Mozilla review queue for a couple weeks, so it is hopefully close to getting approved. Once approved, Zutilo should update automatically (though the reviewers usually find some meaningless bug that delays approval, so who knows how long it will be). Until it is approved, you can update manually from the link above (following the installation instructions from the read) or follow the alternative method given in issue #9.

I'll close issue #8 and leave this one open until Zutilo gets approved in case other people come here with this issue.

Sorry to be dense, but what installation instructions are you referring to? I'm using Chrome for a browser, so I have to install Zutilo in Zotero Standalone. (I'd rather use Firefox, but it gives me a ridiculous number of Flash crashes.)

Sorry, I meant to write "instructions from the readme".... To be totally clear, I'll just quote (and edit) the relevant section here:

For Zotero Standalone, you will have to download the .xpi file and install it manually.

To get the .xpi file, go to https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/zutilo-utility-for-zotero/versions/. If you are using Firefox, instead of clicking on the "Add to Firefox" button, right-click on the button and choose "Save Link As...." You will then get a dialog that lets you save the .xpi file. If you are using a web browser other than Firefox, the "Add to Firefox" button should instead be a "Download Now" button. You can click on it to download the .xpi file.

Once you have the zutilo.xpi file, go to Tools->Add-ons in Zotero Standalone. Click on the gear button in the upper right area of the Add-ons Manager window that appears and choose "Install Add-on From File." Then select the .xpi file.

If you can, follow the above instructions with Firefox to download the .xpi. I just tried to follow them using Chrome and for some reason the site/browser would not let me download the latest versions of Zutilo, only version 1.1.17 and below.

If you can't use a browser that lets you download version 1.2.3 from there, you can download the latest version here: https://github.com/willsALMANJ/Zutilo/archive/master.zip. You have to unzip that file and then zip all of its contents back into a new zip file (install.rdf and chrome.manifest should be at the top level of the zip file -- be careful to zip them into the new zip file rather than zipping the folder containing them). Then change the zip file's extension from "zip" to "xpi" and install it from Tools->Add-ons as described at the end of the quoted section above.

Thanks for the clarification. I downloaded the .xpi file with FF and installed it in the Zotero Standalone with absolutely no trouble at all. Zutilo is great, by the way. I don’t know why they don’t incorporate it into Zotero.

Compatible version finally got approved by Mozilla, so this can be closed now.
