Huh, it "works for me." Are you sure you are using Zotero 6.0.20? I have been a bit out of the loop with Zotero updates, but I see that there is a major update coming with Zotero 7 that will report Zutilo as incompatible: https://www.zotero.org/support/dev/zotero_7_for_developers

The "About Zotero" states 6.0.20. Could it be that the update pulled the February release 6.0.21.
I forgot to mention that I am running Debian testing.

I should have posted the message, not a summary. So ...
The add-on "%S" could not be installed. It may be incompatible with this version of Zotero.
@millarc: This shouldn't be a general issue. I'm running Zutilo with the latest Zotero version without problems.
You could try the following:
Rename your zutilo.xpi file to zutilo.zip and check if you're able to view its contents. Make sure to download the file properly, see https://github.com/wshanks/Zutilo/issues/233#issuecomment-1191440463.
Install Zutilo with all other plugins disabled.
See this discussion for more troubleshooting options:
Above message, roughly speaking, received I attempted to add zutilo.xpi using tolls/add-ons
Zutilo-3.6.1 and zutilo.xpi v 3.10.0
