fix(deps): upgrade Go version and other dependencies #12

Purpose

This commit is aimed at upgrading the Go version and other dependencies in this k8s operator.

Approach

Learned the k8s fundamentals and the operator pattern
Created a new operator using the operator-sdk
Compared differences between the new operator and this current operator
Read the k8s docs about deprecations
Updated the Go version and other deps accordingly
Tested the updated operator against a local minikube cluster

Test environment

This updated version of the operator has been tested and works with,

Minikube v1.29.0
k8s v1.26.1 on docker 20.10.23
