I'm not quite getting this. Are you saying the channel names are too similar? I guess the first could be renamed "Variants: Position". The general pattern is that they are called "TABLE_NAME: COLUMN_NAME" with the exception of the "triangle at position track" which is just called "TABLE_NAME".
This is a very weak and subtle issue, and hardly an issue at all, but I reckon something like "Variants: Position", as you suggest, would solve it.
The "problem" (or is it simply an unwarranted concern?) might be elucidated by this imaginary conversation: Bob: "You can see it in the variants channel?" Jim: "Which variants channel?" Bob: "The one in the Genome Browser." Jim: "Yes, but which one? There are three channels with variants in. The top one?" Bob: "I only have one variants channel. THE variants channel." Jim: "???"
Jim and Bob are fools and should not be allowed to play with grown-up toys.
Bob: "You can see it in the variant positions channel." Jim: "Ah yes."
HOME [tab] > Explore genomic data through the Viewer [heading] > View genome [button]
(Initially, there are "Variants", "Variants: FST - Global" and "Variants: FST - WAF; FST - EAF; + 4 more".)
(Maybe rename the "Variants" channel, or reword the "Variants:" channel headings to distinguish and clarify them.)
I suspect adding a channel identifier such as "Channel 1" to each channel would only make matters worse, by adding visual clutter and superfluous info.
