irc:// links like 'irc://freenode.net#lesswrong' seem to generate errors, and aren't listed in the ignored links:

As far as I am aware, irc:// links should work: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_Relay_Chat#URI_scheme

We believe that the issue you reported is fixed in the latest version of linkchecker which can be found in the project's Git repository under: https://linkchecker.git.sourceforge.net/
