For example, we should translate

line breaks \\ to <br/>
\hspace (how?)
itemize environments and \items to <ul>...</ul> and <li>...</li>
\textbf to <b>....</b> etc.
left quotes to &bdquo; and right quotes to “

The best way might be to extend MathJax.
