Some files in /img/site_scons are not read correctly with cat

Several files in the /img/site_scons directory on the LiveCD
cannot be read correctly with the cat command. Instead of outputting
the file contents cat outputs clobbered data, like for example:

(localhost) # cat /img/site_scons/build.py
??
?1Jc flagssSEs(localhost) #
(localhost) # cat /img/site_scons/version.py
??
u201e?2Jca) << 16) + ((b) << 8) + (c))
#define RELEASE "s#ht(localhost) #
