The QPF_Smarttool uses the HPCERP source which should be better. How is GS doing it?
_There has been a little confusion at times regarding WPCGuide QPF...and I just want to try to clarify things a bit.
A cron runs every 30 minutes, looking for new WPC grids to populate in WPCGuide. I'm assuming this is running at the top and bottom of the hour, but perhaps someone can confirm this for me. In any case, it can be tough to know if you are looking at an updated forecast...or one that's possibly several hours old from a previous cycle.
To ensure you know which cycle you are viewing, view the grids in "SAVED" display mode in the grid manager, or by comparing WPCGuide to the (legacy) HPCERP grids. The latter are populated at the time they are sent over the SBN...rather than waiting for the cron. Just checking my system right now (1822Z) shows that our Day 2 is updated in WPCGuide, but Day 1 is not.
So as a result of this cron, it's possible that we will send our grids by deadline (06Z/18Z for the prelim), but by the time the files get transmitted, they may have to wait upwards of 29 minutes to update WPCGuide. They don't show up in WPCGuide until 0630Z or 1830Z even though we may have technically sent them on time. Again, consider looking at HPCERP (06Z or 18Z if viewing the prelims) for the most updated products._
