Sound skipping, glitching and FMV sequences skipping after an hour of play #146

After playing the playstation for an hour or more the music in games distorts and glitches, with noticeable popping and cracking in the sound. There is also distortion in the FMV sequences of games.

Please check the videos out below for more info: (video expires 26 Sept)

The games sound and work flawlessly from a cold boot up until over an hour of the machine on, so I don't think it's the files from the supported Redump set or the SD Card SanDisk Ultra 400GB Class 10 A1.

Games tested in order:

Resident Evil - Director's Cut - Dual Shock Ver. (USA) - gameplay footage Ridge Racer (Japan) - menu music R4 - Ridge Racer Type 4 (USA) - Intro

Hm, the SD card or the data transfer from the card to the ODE are clearly failing. First thing to try is a different card, and if you use an extender, try without it. The ODE runs such things for days normally.

Thanks for the reply, I will be trying a few things before 8bitmods get back to me to rule out anything like you mentioned. I will try a new SD card with those games and format the SD card as suggested. The XStation does use the extender, but not sure if I should tamper with work already done that might void warranty. What's weird is that any game works fine up until around 1 hour when the Playstation gets slightly warm on the left hand side, this might be pointing to a solder point getting warm and loosing connection? I understand that it's a tricky mod to do and I want to work everyone to get this sorted. So this is just a heads up, to see if it's anything software related or hardware. Thanks again!

Yea, sorry I can't tell you exactly what's wrong, but I can rule out that it's a software issue. With every release there is an overnight stress test on 3 different consoles, which would have revealed such issues.

I used a new memory card and reformatted with the suggested SD Formatter software. The issue crops up again after 1hr of play. So must be a hardware or extension cable issue. It can’t be software as works as expected up until 1hr. Thanks for your input, will close case now.
