No Psx Logo and blackscreen PU18 #204

Hello, I just installed the xstation on a psx pu18 scph 5502 and when turning on playstation logo does not appear on the tv. It seems as if there is no electricity to the motherboard, I have checked the continuity according to test points and they seem to be correct. When turning on the console, the TV seems to detect the video signal but the screen stays black and there is no logo or sound. Could someone help me to solve the problem. Thank you IMG_20220321_191037 IMG_20220321_191124

Hey, first check: is the xStation connected when you try this? It is required, because it delivers the CPU clock signal now.

jauma80 commented 2 years ago

Hello Yes, xstation is connected but no LED lights up (Only power supply led). It seems that there is no power to the xstation board, do you know where the fault could be? Thanks.

ramapcsx2 commented 2 years ago

Yes. The xStation should have a blue LED lighting up, indicating +8V and Ground are reaching it. If that doesn't happen, there is a problem right there :)

But how can I detect the solution of the problem. It is a soldering problem or the xstation is defective. Can I know which is the 8V pin and the ground.

I marked them here: https://i.imgur.com/n9UeKTn.jpeg

The xStation is fine. The problem is going to be somewhere along the power line.

Edit: I have to say that the soldering is not clean. Some solder joints look dubious, and should be reflowed.

I have reviewed the soldering and now when I turn on the console a blue LED lights up on the xstation with a blinking green led (I don't insert sd card). But now there is no signal to the tv

The APLL wire delivers the clock now. It also looks badly soldered. You partly have too much solder on some points, partly not enough flux was used.. Is this lead-free solder by chance? Lead-free is very hard to use, especially if trying to connect it to the regular solder on the PSX board.

Hello, I think it is lead-free tin, attached photo. I have done the installation of the APLL cable again and I have checked the welds, attached photo of verification with multimeter. I still have the same problem, the Xstation seems to work ok with a blue led and a green led blinking but it does not get a signal to the tv. I am attaching some photos of the new welds and APLL cable to see if they are apparently correct or if something is wrong. What are the pins that can affect the tv signal?

It gets hard to diagnose problems from afar, once the easy things are checked. The APLL line has to work for the CPU to start and the system to produce a picture.

ramapcsx2 commented 2 years ago

At some point, it may be best if an installer looks over it.

First of all I want to thank you for the help provided. Finally I have not been able to make the xstation work, I will try to find someone in Spain who can review the installation in person. Thanks again for your time and help.
