XStation simply resets and boots to loader on attempted disc swap #351

My system is a late PU-8 and I noticed the issue when attempting to play Vib-Ribbon with a music CD after the game failed to load its own built-in levels. Following that, I installed the latest main line firmware update and tried again, meeting with the same issue described; any time I open the disc cover and then close it the system does a hard reset instead of a soft reboot.

I have tested with a queue and without, in the CD player, and anywhere else, with the same result. It also happens in other games; I tried to play Final Fantasy 7 by loading the second disc first, and at the screen opened and closed the disc cover. Hard reset, boot to loader.

Is this an issue that has been encountered before? I am fairly sure I have used queues on this system previously; could it be a mechanical problem?

Ok, it looks like it is a mechanical issue. After tinkering with the device for some time I have discovered that the disc swap functions properly if I am extremely gentle with the disc cover and press the open button while I choose it, so the latch does not snap; this leads me to believe the issue is with a loose connection in the power system. I will investigate myself further.
