Snap to grid #31

When moving around objects, it is helpful to let them snap to (current) grid resolution.

Hmm, I don't like this idea anymore...

For a 3D CAD application as well as for any other Design Application (such as 2D Design Tools like Inkscape), the possibilty of having a snapping grid is crucial in order to precisely position objects. Of course, one should always be able to turn this mechanism on or off, or to specify the grid resolution.

However, this feature is probably not needed in the component editor, since we will already be able to snap primitives precisely together. But it could be important for the plant editor, in order to precisely position parts of the objects on the ground. Maybe we could, for now, decrease the priority of this feature?

Yes, the idea came from 2D, where you often have this. However, when I think of the various modeling tools I tried out, none of them had this snapping (or I didn't find it). Any opinion here from frequent Max/Maya/Blender users?

As a blender user, you can hold CTRL during translation in order to snap to the grid (or to rotate in units of 5 degrees or so, and so on)

Convinced, then we'll implement it.
