Adding Armory Expansion #264

If your feature request is a mod config update suggestion:

  1. Has someone suggested this mod feature before: Yes
  2. Why should the mod be modified:

When looking at the previous issue #193, addition of different materials to armor was not done due to the lack of armor features as well as how Construct's Armory is made for early to mid game. However, when looking at a comprehensive list of all modifiers and materials for Tinkers Construct and Construct's Armory, some modifiers seem quite useful no matter what part of the game you are on; The most notable choices would be the ability to gain more hearts while wearing your armor as well as more passive health regen while on the ground.

While playing this modpack the biggest issue I am currently running into while using Construct's Armory armor is the ability to fly. (Right now I would say I am close to end game) This is a trivial issue since other mods include methods of flight that do not require swapping out armor (looking at you Extra Utilities 2 angel wings). Also, other armor sets that allow modification and are useful from mid to end game like Dark and End Steel armor don't even include their own forms of flight; The best they have are either a built in elytra (which requires you to carry around fireworks) or a glider function, the latter Construct's Armory armor can do just as well if you use an Open Blocks glider. Even when looking at the modifiers you can gain from using Constructs Armory armor, you gain the ability to auto step up blocks, store oxygen to use underwater, and even gain more damage, block reach, or item usage speed, all of which are useful no matter what tier you are on. (Some of which are exclusive to Construct's Armory armor)

Even when looking at raw defense values, using Construct's Armory armor does not feel like an issue since without modifying the armor for more defense, I have the equivalent defense of superium armor and have potential for even more if other materials like refined obsidian and dark steel are added. Now, if you look at the theoretical maximum values that any set of armor can have, you can obtain enough defense to allow you to probably survive a nuke directly to the face. (Given this is an extreme case and similar results would require the usage of materials like awakened draconium, which is not available in this pack) However if materials like enderium or signalium are used, you would be able to make armor that would rival quantum or refined obsidian in defense.

Finally, when looking at optimal end game armor, what extra features does one even look for? The equivalent of Infinity armor from Avaritia, which makes you outright invincible except from holy damage like the katana? Armor that allows you to have the most versatility like Dark or End Steel armor? Other than exploring space, which needs its own armor or Power Armor to properly explore, the most functionality you will need in a set of armor is the ability to fly as well as have pretty decent defensive capabilities, which makes a good amount of armor viable.

Now if you wanted to add these materials, I am not sure if you would also need to download Armory Expansion or if Plus-Tic already handles all of the conversions to Construct Armory. I'll still provide the link just in case

I didn't read all of that, but I'm going to throw in some information critical to your defense thesis. While supremium may have a total of 20 defense, one may notice it makes the wearer immune to, (as far as I know,) any non-armor-ignoring damage. Diamond armor has the same stats but doesn't offer nearly as much protection, obviously. Also, refined obsidian armor has 30 defense and offers nearly as much effective protection as supremium whereas endsteel offers 40 but in practice has almost no protection.
My point is: there is much more to damage reduction than the displayed defense values, so I could imagine this comparison of yours between supremium and manyullyn isn't entirely fair, considering that supremium is like I said, near-immortality whereas I would guess manyullyn performs similarly to diamond.

My point was that adding Armory Expansion when the new materials it supports lack any armor-specific features feels redundant, because the mod is basically incomplete. You should use the materials the core mod supports, and if you want more advanced armor you should craft it from mods that are complete. Is your point that adding Armory Expansion would be beneficial regardless of the features because it can still offer more protection? Because in such case again Armory Expansion does not help - according to that spreadsheet the materials that offer the highest defense values (50.0) are either from the default Tinkers' materials, or from Mystical Agriculture (in which case you should craft that mod's armor due to its unique features).
