Recovering from a .xbkp file - effects missing #4600

Describe the bug
Scenario:
autosave set to every 5 minutes
indeterminate xlights crash (no known cause / no problem report)
attempt to re-open from .xbkp file, accept prompt that saving the backup file will overwrite existing FSEQ
when opening most recent .xbkp file, all effects added since most recent save are missing from the sequencer view
Investigation:
looking at the .xml file of the .xbkp file, all of the most recent effects are actually there
multiple attempts to open the .xbkp file, as named or with a different name yielded the same results - all of the effects since last save are in the .xml file but not in the sequencer view
renaming the .xbkp file to a new .xsq file name and opening the sequence, all of the missing effects captured in the last autosave show up
Question:
is the expectation that opening a .xbkp file should actually have the most recent effects in it, or is the expectation that you should rename the .xbkp file to an .xsq file and then open it to recover the effects? If so, why is there a prompt or capability to open an .xbkp file at all? Why are the effects actually in the .xml file but don't show up on the sequencer tab?
