I believe this issue is caused by the TabBarController setting the 'Bottom Bar' setting to 'None'. We are respecting that value of 'None' and hide the tab bars on the other two viewcontrollers, but it looks like it is incorrect to do this.
You can work around the problem for now by changing the 'Bottom Bar' setting to 'Inferred' instead of 'None'. This issue only impacts design mode, not regular app runtime, so it is is safe to alter this value.
The storyboard visual designer appears to toss away the following line from the default ViewController definitions:
after some edits that I don't believe have anything to do with the simulated tab bar. The result is the tab bar in the ViewController for the tab disappears, and it becomes impossible to set the text or icon associated with the affected tab...until you manually edit the Main.storyboard file and add the deleted line back in.
Steps to Reproduce
Expected Behavior
Simulated tab bar item should appear on the tab's ViewController, and the Bar Item section in Properties should appear, and be available for editing
Actual Behavior
The tab bar item disapears, and the Bar Item section in Properties disappears, making it impossible to edit the text or icon associated with the affected ViewController
