HP OMEN 27k Monitor Only Works With Legacy DDC/CI Detection Method #795

Open jordanwmcdonald opened 4 weeks ago

jordanwmcdonald commented 4 weeks ago

Thank you for this exceptional tool!!

CONFIGURATION

  1. Windows 11 Pro 23H2 22631.4037
  2. Twinkle Tray v1.16.0-beta7 (6d73e88)
  3. Monitors: 2x Dell U2720Q; 1x Dell S2721QS; 1x OMEN 27k (HPN396C)

ISSUE

All monitors work with non-legacy DDC/CI detection method except the OMEN 27k. I have tried installing the display driver from HP and rebuilding Windows from scratch (was doing it anyway for another reason). Is this to be expected? Is there anything I can do to help address this issue with this model?

Thank you for this exceptional tool, again.

Hi @jordanwmcdonald,

Do you mind generating two reports?:

  1. With the Legacy method on.
  2. With the Legacy method off.

You can generate the reports here: Screenshot 2024-08-18 141029

Also, are you mirroring any displays, have any displays disabled, or have any of the displays connected connected across multiple GPUs?

Thanks!

Hi @xanderfrangos,

Thanks for your response. Attached are the requested reports. Legacy On-tt-report-1724008543924.txt Legacy Off-tt-report-1724008604831.txt

Mirroring displays: no Displays disabled: zero Displays connected across multiple GPUs: no, CPU 5950X has no iGPU and only using RTX3090

Interesting. In that Debug menu, can you set "DDC/CI Scanning Mode" to "Fast" and let me know if that fixes it?

jordanwmcdonald commented 3 weeks ago

Forgot to mention that I had tested that - yes, "Fast" does work.

xanderfrangos commented 3 weeks ago

Well your OMEN isn't providing a DDC/CI capabilities string, which "Accurate" relies on. I guess I can't assume that manufacturers can get even that part of the spec correct. 🙄

I'm sure you're not the only person who will run into this, so I'll need to blend "Accurate" and "Fast" together. For now, I recommend sticking with "Fast" unless you encounter issues.

Silly manufacturers. The lack of following spec re: HDMI CEC drives me up a wall, as well.

Thank you for your help.

When you have a chance, do you mind trying this build with "Accurate" enabled? https://github.com/xanderfrangos/twinkle-tray/actions/runs/10444416432/artifacts/1825302408
