It's probably easier to tweak the spec file to make a XS-specific install directory change, the upstream should probably stick with a conventional bin dir.
Speaking of upstream, there's an experiment in progress here: the master branch is following my development one, and XenServer is using the xapi-project vhd-tool/trunk-ring3 one. So XS specific patches should go in the trunk-ring3 branch but will makes future merges more painful (like a patch queue)

Super old, so I'm closing this to get it off of my open pull request queue.
