healpy has been failing consistently to import in the past few months.

looks like the answer is as described in healpy/healpy#949: healpy by default builds the vendored shared libraries but does not include them in the wheel. However, the wheels from PyPI are produced by running auditwheel repair (via cibuildwheel) immediately afterwards, which copies the shared libs into the wheel in site-packages/healpy.libs. By temporarily running auditwheel repair as well, we can build a nightly version of healpy.
