might not be of any help, but it doesn't hurt either, so i've corrected the version number in nexus: https://github.com/xbmc/repo-skins/commit/d9e59bf39375017ad3486cb720741f477ce6d16e

surprisingly that worked... 4.8.4 is now in the addon repo even though v4.8.3 is still there. so perhaps we were wrong about assuming the 'v' in the version number would block any updates.

5.0.4 is also now available from Kodi add-on browser so maybe it did work but the latest update took over from the one with the v in it?
