This includes removing the 0-sized NEWS/ChangeLog files, adding more files to the distribution, fixing the misuse of AM_LDFLAGS for libraries, and updating the libtool detection macro.

Ok didn't know that. I rarely see someone who actually understand autotools, myself I just copy build systems from other projects without understanding everything.
