FA 5.0 is out since a while, the new icons would be really nice to have!

There seems to be a duplicate of #17. Like I said there upgrading this package would break old documents because the icons look very different and a lot of names were removed. Instead you can use my fontawesome5 package to use FontAwesome 5 with LaTeX.

@xdanaux Maybe consider deprecating this package in favor of the fontawesome5 package, as Font Awesome 4 is no longer maintained?

@zauguin Is there no Github repository / issue tracker for this new package? I get an !pdfTeX error: pdflatex (file fa5free0solid): Font fa5free0solid at 600 not found even though the package is correctly installed and fa5free0solid.tfm in my tex path.

There is no public repository or issue tracker. As mentioned in the documentation:

Bugs

For bug reports and feature requests, write to tex@2krueger.de.

For questions which are neither feature requests nor bug reports, you can either still send me a mail, ask on TeX StackExchange, or similar.

fontawesome5.map hasn't been added to your map file. If you installed the package manually, make sure that you followed step 4 of TUG's font install guide. Otherwise it strongly depends on your distribution how to proceed.

orzechow commented 4 years ago

No, I didn't install the latex package manually. My setup:

I have the Fontawesome Font installed as a user font though, might this lead to problems?

zauguin commented 4 years ago

@orzechow Oh, then it's because your TeXLive is ancient. You can find a fix in https://tex.stackexchange.com/a/497798/80496

orzechow commented 4 years ago

Thanks! The updmap-sys command did update the system map files (I checked their diff), but I still get the error and don't want to mess with a custom vanilla TexLive installation.

Seems like I have to keep with fontawesome v4 until me and my team update to Ubuntu 20.04

@zauguin According to https://github.com/FortAwesome/Font-Awesome#documentation, Fontawesome 6 has appeared. How about support for fontawesome6?
