I manually downloaded and renamed the edge zip file and got a different md5.

When you go to Microsoft's website, you can still download the VM with Edge/Win10 for Mac:

https://dev.windows.com/en-us/microsoft-edge/tools/vms/mac

Interestingly enough, though, the image is called Microsoft Edge.Win10.For.Windows.VirtualBox.zip. I can confirm that it works fine once imported to VirtualBox.

As of tonight, deleting the .ievms folder and removing the IE machine from VirtualBox folder still results in a failed download using the bash command stated at the beginning of this issue thread.

Trying a manual download of the .zip from modern.ie consistently results in a network timeout.

The new md5sum is 2a591bd4e59c8fc1ca9818c31b99666b

I've updated my fork with that and the replacement url for the Cross Compiler binaries.

Just bumping this issue - we still need to use Mike's fork to get Edge installed.

Mikes script is a windows download, you can't just swap the Mac VirtualBox URL for a Windows one and expect it to work on Mac based VirtualBox.
