This issue has a few task related:

jorgegalindocruces commented 7 years ago

@justinelsberry, can you check if we can revive the Customer.io account only for this? It could be awesome. Thanks!

justinelsberry commented 7 years ago

Didn't we export the list?

jorgegalindocruces commented 7 years ago

Yeah we did it, but I think that to import to Mailchimp can be more expensive than use this services (only that month)

justinelsberry commented 7 years ago

@jorgegalindocruces It appears that we can not reinstate our account on customer.io. @MaureenElsberry was going to look into some other services

Hey @MaureenElsberry, yesterday we were talking about this... We have to re-thinking the meaning to send the newsletter.

On one hand its completely awesome have >200k users emails in order to share a new app but... On the other hand, they are not our target right now. Our focus with 9 Cards is not get zillions users, is get the FP and dev community repercussion in order to share our capacity to do awesome FP products.

So, still being a good idea send an email to this list?

Thoughts?

PS: We have to have in mind the possibility of bad feedback from the users that bought for a Pro account into 9 Cards. This can be handled by a Open Source and community message but there is the possibility.

Why don't we hold off on sending it out to the big list for now @jorgegalindocruces - If our goal is to really get the other developer community to notice, we can save almost 1k and target that network and see how it goes - then we can assess down the road, whether we want to target those users.

The risk for spam at that level when they haven't been mailed in forever is quite high and the return might not be great... I'm not saying we shouldn't ever do it, but I think if we focus our time and resources on the developer community first, it would be beneficial to our end goal. We can however, send out a newsletter to our main list about it - sure only 1500 people, but we know the majority of those are engineers in the scala community.

I don't think it's going to hurt us to pause the 200k list even if it's not immediately the day it launches - it's still a new product for the first 3-6 months as far as I'm concerned ;)
