I use Horizon to extract save file manual to let the game can go to the main menu!

Tested on the latest version. It goes past the main menu, but there's no 3d rendering. There's the Sonic Unleashed logo, but no planet. And if I go ingame, the pre-rendered opening cutscene with Sonic fighting Eggman's robots in space is shown, but after that, everything from the cutscene where Sonic falls from the sky onwards, including the gamepllay, is all just a black screen.
DX12 seems to work most of the time. On AMD cards, however, Sonic's model explodes, making the game almost unplayable: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-xD9BvmbgbA
This happens to certain other models on a much smaller scale. The issue also happens on Nvidia cards, but the only example I know about offhand is the seagull model from Windmill Isle. Also, the lighting is too dark, and the game is prone to crashing (this is amplified when the quickstep is used).
Current status is playable on NVIDIA cards. This is with the DX12 patch. No modifications are necessary though the 60fps one works well on higher end cards.
How are you guys getting this to work at all? I still get stuck at the title screen. There's tons of videos popping up claiming that it works, but not a single one is willing to explain how to start the game.
That's because you need a save file, it gets stuck when trying to create a new save file so you need one already made to go in-game.
Works...kinda on a 750 ti except input lag, also kinda unplayable because screen gets full of lines
That's because of the gpu, i have a gtx 1070 and i could play through most stages with a stable fps with none of those "Lines" There are some vertex explosions, but most stages don't have any

You need to put a save file to get past the menus, it's a known issue for some games, It's complicated to explain and i'm too lazy too.. Here: RonDaBlue#4310 (My discord) Message me there and ill explain how to get you a save file
Some screenshots of gameplay, Stable fps for most stages, But there are a lot of places where it crashes unfortunately, though most stages are completeable when going different paths, so i would call this "Gameplay"
Vertex explosions pretty much on all stages too.

also whoops, i meant that you need xbox360ce, my bad... you'll need xbox360ce to set up your controls there, this error happens because xenia is also detecting your keyboard

@ToppestOfDogs Old Save path (example): C:\Emulator\xenia\content... (if C:\Emulator\xenia\xenia.exe) New Save Path: C:\Users\User_Name\Documents\Xenia\content... Just take all your saves from old path and put to new path
@Parovozik That's not what I asked. Anyway I figured it out, adding portable.txt to the emulator directory changes it back to how it was.
With the most recent build of Xenia d3d12 is lags a lot compared to the last one. Maybe 1-5 fps compared to 15-20 EDIT: Laptop Specs AMD RX 460 AMD FX9830p Equivalent to a FX4300 8gb Ram SSD
Something strange that I've noticed throughout playing this title across the past couple months of builds, is that sometimes the game will "crash" maybe not crash but the screen will go black except for the HUD elements and the timer will slow to a crawl. If you're fast enough you can pause and quit the level without it crashing, which causes icons on the world map to display incorrectly. Though the Jungle Joyride Day Act 1 stage causes a full crash just a couple seconds into the stage. I don't have any screenshots or videos to show this as I'm not at my personal computer at the moment. But besides vertex explosions and some levels crashing, this game is certainly playable. That crash occurs because you quickstepped in the starting area, so the game tries to activate a quickstep control object which Xenia doesn't understand and it causes a crash. Arid Sands 1 also has this issue but it crashes regardless of if you quickstep, not sure why.
Jungle Joyride 1 crashes later in the level anyway. The stage exceeds the size limit, so the ending areas are stored in another part of the stage (at a different lateral position) and an object teleports Sonic there. Xenia has problems with this transition (maybe due to rendering large amounts of terrain in a single frame, maybe the teleport object, I don't know) and I have never gotten past it.

I see, I will test levels without quickstepping and will edit this post with the results...
So when playing Jungle Joyride Act 1, the game crashed later in the level than it ever has for me before, but I was still unable to pass the quickstep section. Upon hitting a ramp the host crashed. Here is a dump.

You can jump over that ramp lol, forgot to say I think it also tries to communicate with the quickstep object. Also you can't take the higher path in the second section, you need to use the loops.

how to install:
download the save data
make a folder and name it "content" (without the quotations) where the root of where your xenia emulator is
open the zip, take the folder out of the zip, and move it to the content folder
load up the game

Just tried it...
- Windmill Isle Act 2 (Day)
- On first playthrough stage stuttered and tore. However, was more or less smooth in the second playthrough. Though both plays I couldn't not finish the stage as the screen blacked out nearing the goal
- Dragon Road Act 1 (Day)
- Same case as windmill isle in terms of performance. The difference was no black screen instead there were rendering issues in segments which models would tear and stretch, throughout the stage
- Cool Edge Act 1 (Day)
- Same case as the previous in terms of performance. However shared similarities with Dragon Road where models would tear and stretch out, though this was only nearing the goal.
- Rooftop Run Act 1 (Day)
- First playthrough the game blacked out in the first 10 seconds. Second playthrough the staged acted more or less like the previous stages with performance issues in their first run. However, around the middle of the stage, the game had crashed
- Skyscraper Scamper Act 1(Day)
- First playthrough appeared to seem like the first few stages. However, the game crashed about 30 seconds in.

Just saying that there are workarounds to complete the stages, If i'm not wrong all main story stages are completeable except for shamar day and Adabat (it is passable but Extremely difficult to get past crashes)
In Windmill Isle Act 1 (Day) it's mainly about the quicktep section, you might want to keep jumping and boosting and you might get through it. In Windmill Isle Act 2 (Day) Just intentionally fail the QTE at the End to avoid the Crash.
Cool Edge Act 1 (Day) Usually Crashes for me whenever i press the button things in for the 3rd time, to avoid it i get off the button and jump slide on it.
Rooftop Run Act 1 (Day) At the first 10 seconds it can happen all the time but if you're fast you probably just go above it, In the middle of the stage where it crashes you can avoid it by making a jump above the place it crashed with speed, you'll need to jump slightly far from the crash point but enough to make it past it.
Skyscraper Scamper Act 1 (Day) I don't know what about the crash you got the first 30 seconds, the crash you would usually get is technically at the moment unavoidable and sometimes it crashes and sometimes it doesn't, It's right before that robot that's behind you that is chasing you, i usually try to avoid the speed pad, the crash happens due to the transiction between the sections
For now try the rest of the stages except for shamar since it's not passable due to a crash at the start, and i won't recommend adabat because 95% of the time you would crash even if you know where it crashes, Try the other stages for now
With the merge of https://github.com/xenia-project/xenia/commit/71780838f0a6d9bd659db231b7984f9c87f9f66c this game has moved from being state-menus to state-gameplay

It wasn't, Also those aren't random crashes, there are specific locations for those crashes
As of today, and several updates for RTX graphics cards. I witness an aggressive amount of frame drops, and render tearing compared to my initial playthrough. But this is also a good sign, this just means gotta wait for updates.

From my knowledge, there is no fix for the quickstep section of Windmill Isle. Which is why it is suggested to just get a 100% save and just play what you can. The most stable of the stages is Cool Edge Act 1 (Day) and Dragon Road Act 1 (Day) from my plays.
And with everyone running on different systems it hard to find an appropriate configuration that works for all.

I would like to add that in the final boss (Dark Gaia) when you get to the Super Sonic section the orchestral endless possibilities music that is supposed to play doesn't play, so music is pretty much disabled there for some reason

In my case, the audio plays but the textures are stretched out everywhere to the point you can't see anything making the super section unplayable.

That's nothing new, it's best to play from a 100% save. The only stages I've found myself able to play from start to finish from the day stages are Cool Edge, Dragon Road, Empire City
If you check @RonDaBlue 's comment a few post up, he shows how to bypass the black screen if you're lucky enough.
So I’ve tried this on both old and new builds and this just doesn’t seem to get fixed. First my controller doesn’t respond after selecting a save for an August canary build, then when I got that problem out of the way for other builds, the opening cutscene is smooth as hell, but the in-game one after it is slow. I just skip that by pressing start. After that, at two points in the first level, including the one in the first pic, I have this terrible artifacting that happens like in the second pic. I tried bypassing that by just ignoring those first 3 or 4 enemies in the first pic, but once I start going through the quickstep section after that, the screen goes black with just the hud like in someone’s post above, and the counter just keeps going. I’m guessing for the unresponsive controller I should follow the save file advice given here before, and the same for the black screen, but can I get any help on the artifacting?

Could you provide your computer specs? On other note, yeah it’s best to grab a 100% save as there’s not much info on getting around the black screens, unless you can edit the kernel yourself.
Yeah my specs aren’t great at all lol. Intel core i7 1.8GHz intel uhd graphics 620, 1080p60 screen. Really just an office laptop, but I’ve had my fair share of emulation on it, though I do know hd consoles are too demanding for systems like mine. Sonic 06 runs with a really low frame rate but playable nonetheless. I tried the completed save file thing for unleashed but still didn’t fix anything sadly.

Yeah... those specs are a little YIKES lol. A dedicated graphics is required in my experience for decent performance on Unleashed. And what I meant about the 100% save is just so you can play what you can, as you won’t get passed the first stage on a new save, as with many others such as myself. Day Stages I still can’t play 100% are Windmill Isle Act 1 & 2, Savanna Citadel Act 1, Jungle Joyride Act 1, Eggmanland (Though I had a rare playthrough were it was playable surprisingly till the third part of the stage where it ended with me dying because models tore to the point I couldn’t see)
