Please ensure you include/confirm the following information before submitting an issue.

V1.8.0.142 OS win10 Several Audio Devices, 5.1 Dolby, Front and Back, Headphone w/mic, normal desktop spearkers, multiple other outputs (not connected) from monitors, Aux/line outs misc Nvidia, Realtek, Soundblaster (where applicable)

This seemingly happens at random, especially after a sleep or hibernation.

Can you please store preferred HotKey Settings in some kind of dll or ini file and associate inside the program?

Is this project dead I see it hasn't been updated since 2018

Experiencing the same behavior.

On my computer I also see some hotkey-attached devices just change to 'unknown device'. I'm thinking it has to do with some guid changing, but don't know how to fix it.

Also having the same issue

mdepedrof commented 1 year ago

i have the same issue. when i install any update on any audio device (also with the graphic card) I loose all hotkeys with "unknown device".

GraffJosh commented 1 year ago

Somehow the system seems to have become a bit more reliable, just over time. It's been a few weeks now since I've had to relink the hotkeys.

I've also started using the quick switcher in the taskbar, I don't know for sure if that would have an impact.

This happens to me every time I reboot, I have two devices setup (one connected to built-in MB audio and one USB wireless headset) and they show up as "Unknown Device" after a reboot. Normally not a big issue, but with the frequency of Windows Updates lately I find my computer rebooting quite a bit.

same issue

I also have this issue. It manifests when the computer starts up, but not every time. It happens maybe once every few weeks.

Ive had this issue for years as well. Switched to Win11 when it came out, and it exists there as well.

Can confirm. My observation is that the issue is slightly different - it's devices that disappear and yet they still seem to take the previously assigned hotkey. The workaround I've found (I think it was mentioned here somewhere) is to go to Hotkeys and do Clear All despite that it might look empty; after that I can reassign the same hotkeys (seems to be easier from the Playback tab as you can just right click a device and choose Set Hot Key for it).

I just experienced the issue, but after selecting to show unknown devices in Hotkey list (there is a setting) now they hotkeys I had previously created are showing up... and remain even after unchecking the setting for unknown devices... 🤷‍♂️

OS: Windows 11 Pro version 23H2 Audio Switcher Version: 1.8.0.142

I'm also getting the same issue. Defeats the entire purpose of this app for me. It is auto starting up at start up, I have my hot keys set, and I'm using this so I can sync the hotkeys with my elgato stream deck. It works for a few days just fine, I leave my computer on I'm not even shutting it down much. Suddenly the hotkeys don't work. I have three hotkeys for three audio sources, but one of them in the apps UI disappears from the list. Whats weird is when I try to recreate it in the app, an "!" symbol pops up claiming there already is a hotkey with the same mapped buttons, but isn't listed. Super weird. This needs to be fixed or I'm switching apps to something else that can do the same thing.

One aspect that could possibly affect this is I have multiple monitors and a TV I connect my PC to. Sometimes I press Windows + P and select "this pc screen only" which disables the connection to my TV and it doesn't show up on the audio source lists. I'm not 100% sure if thats the cause but I suspect it might because a hot key is assigned to a "ghost" audio source and confuses the app.

Same here. Hotkeys disappear. Have to re-bind them several times. I have also experienced that I need to clear the list to be able to recreate even just 1 binding.
