Pregunta: Migrar toda la configuración de V6 a V7

Buenas noches, Acabo de probar este scrip y es maravilloso. He podido migrar de un equipo a otro con unidad de sistema diferente sin morir en el intento y en un tiempo mínimo. IMPRESIONANTE.

Ahora me asalta la duda de si este scrip podría valer para pasar toda la configuración de una versión 6 actualizada a una instalación limpia con versión 7. ¿Funcionaría? ¿o tan solo está pensado para usar dentro de la misma versión de 6 a 6 o de 7 a 7 (al margen de complementos, plugins y demás que esto ya se indica que ha de ser mismas versiones)?

Para actualizar de OMV6 a OMV7 ya existe la herramienta omv-release-upgrade mantenida por el proyecto central de OMV. Creo que no tendría mucho sentido incluir ese proceso también en omv-regen, añadiría complejidad de forma innecesaria y preferiría mantener omv-regen lo más simple posible.

Si quieres actualizar de OMV6 a OMV7 y tener un sistema limpio puedes seguir estos pasos:

1. Ejecuta omv-release-upgrade en el sistema original OMV6 para actualizar ese sistema a OMV7 (recuerda hacer siempre un backup del sistema antes de hacer una operación de este tipo).
2. Ejecuta omv-regen en el sistema actualizado a OMV7 para conseguir una instalación limpia de OMV7 con tus configuraciones originales de OMV.

El resultado será el que esperas, tendrás una instalación nueva (no actualizada) de OMV7 con las configuraciones que tenías en OMV6 y tendrás el control del proceso. Si hay algún problema durante la actualización de OMV6 a OMV7 al menos sabrás que omv-regen no está implicado porque son dos procesos separados y tendrás el problema acotado. Esto es mas limpio que hacerlo todo al mismo tiempo.

Sorry for writing in english but it's now 50 years since I was in Southamerica for 4 years as a child which makes me understand spanish still very good but speaking or writing isn't easy for me.

I have a similar situation running a system with OMV6. Can I 1) backup my OMV6-settings with omv-regen, then 2) update my NAS from OMV 6 to 7 using omv-release-update and finally 3) restore my settings with omv-regen?

@queen4me Well, don't worry about the language ;)

omv-regen requires that the versions of OMV and OMV plugins on the backup and the new system are the same. So you can't use omv-regen between different versions. The way is to update the OMV version first and then use omv-regen on OMV7 to get a clean system if you need it.

So I would make a backup for my OMV6-settings with omv-regen first, then update the system to OMV7 do another backup for my OMV7-settings and if anything fails I have a omv-regen backup to restore after installing a fresh OMV7 (without update)?

The backup you make with omv-regen of OMV6 will be useless on OMV7. It would only serve to regenerate a new OMV6 installation.

OK. So the proper way would be to install OMV 7 from scratch, make all configurations needed and finally backup with omv-regen. Lessons learned: Backups with omv-regen can only be used for identical OMV versions and are not interchangable.

You can upgrade from OMV6 to OMV7 using the omv-release-upgrade command. After that, if you need, you can regenerate the system with omv-regen to get a clean system with your settings.
